  • Best (YES best) of 2020

Best (YES best) of 2020 Well, we are almost finished with 2020. Like most people, it has been a complete whirlwind of an experience that will have ripple effects and 2nd order consequences for years to come. It would be easy to write about the “Worst of 2020,” but that’s not how I am going to choose to look back at this year. I feel so much sympathy for families that lost loved ones, jobs, or marriages. This year has come to a stand still but also accelerated life by 5 years. Who would have thought… Virtual teaching would be a new normal. Or how often you have to walk back to your car because you forgot your mask. What about the ....

  • Can Being Bullied Be A Good Thing?

Can Being Bullied Be A Good Thing? As far as bullying goes, there are definitely different severities and frequencies of bullying. With the state of technology and communication, there are many forms of cyber bullying, and in certain cases, bullying should not try to be handled without an adult interceding. The information I present is geared toward the 6-12 year old bullying that generally isn’t as severe as what can happen as children get older. The information obviously will have some usefulness to all bullying situations but please remember to ask an adult for help if you are in a severe situation. ____________________________ I hit the “big” numbers ....

Good Leadership Begins With Leading Yourself

At Master Scarsella’s World Class Tae Kwon Do our goal has never been to just have fun in classes. We could do that with tag and dodgeball. Instead we choose to teach quality martial arts, and hard-to-learn and even harder-to-perform traditional curriculum. Our goal is to create leaders. When that term “Leaders” gets said, many people have different views on what that means. When someone becomes a member of our school they don’t start and say they want a blue belt and that’s it. There is usually a specific goal in mind like self-defense, increased focus and confidence or because they want to be a Black Belt. No matter why someone starts, myself and ....

  • Hard Work For What?

    Hard Work For What?

Why working hard is true success!
When we are young we are told by parents, teachers and influencers to work hard to BE successful. To have nice things and earn a great job, we have to work hard at school to get good grades. We have to work hard in sports to earn a starting position on the team. We have to work hard in college to land the job that we want. We work hard at our job to earn a raise. The things we earn through hard work could be, and generally are, well deserved for most of us. Some have tougher times than others, but that not the point I’m trying to make. My point is that we equate working hard with working hard for things. Video games have been ....

Martial Arts Therapy: Using Tae Kwon Do to Beat Illness - Part 2

In our last post, we looked at the ways in which martial arts can be used as an alternative or complementary therapy for those suffering with a physical or mental illness – and today, we’re continuing in the same theme. For those suffering with a physical or mental illness, the idea of taking up a martial art may seem counter-intuitive. We may ask ourselves: “if I am ill, then should I be resting?” Not necessarily. Challenging yourself in a discipline that hones your physical and mental capabilities may just be the route to overcoming your issue. A martial art such as Tae Kwon Do not only keeps you fit and active, but it also helps to nurture your ....
