Personal letter from Master Scarsella
Hello families of Birmingham,
I wanted to tell you a little story about my history and especially about my favorite place growing up. I grew up in a small blue collar town and was incredibly small and shy for my age. I didn’t do well in team sports and had a hard time making friends. My parents recognized this and knew they wanted me to break out of my shell and learn to enjoy life more. They didn’t want me to me bullied anymore and wanted me to gain confidence in myself.
My mom saw a new “restaurant” called “Tae Kwon Do”… or at least she thought it was a restaurant! She walked in and it turned out to be a martial art school - World Class Tae Kwon Do in Buffalo, NY. She received some information about how Tae Kwon Do will be helpful in developing self-esteem and be a group physical activity but with individualized personal progress, where students go at their own pace. She decided that we should at least try it and see if I liked it.
Fast forward 20 plus years and we are here in Birmingham, AL with one of the largest schools in the country. Many people have heard about our program or know someone in our classes but I wanted to reach out and let others know what World Class Tae Kwon Do is all about! Our World Class Tae Kwon Do school is hyper focused on one thing - World Class service. We want to serve our students to help and guide them to be successful in all areas of their lives. Just like it did for me.
The driving force behind everything we do is to give back to others what was given to me. Not only are we providing Tae Kwon Do training that is great for fitness, self-defense and stress release, but our program is also designed to instill values like hard-working attitudes and respectful interactions with others. We want our students to not only excel in academics, sports, family and social life, but be equipped with the skills to handle any challenge that comes along!
